- Annually 600,000 children die from diarrhea and other respiratory diseases. And a simple cost effective way to prevent these diseases is by washing hands with soap. To raise this awareness a campaign was initiated globally in 2008, Global Handwashing Day (GHD). First GHD happened on October 15th, 2008 aimed at raising awareness in school children of almost 70 countries.
- Rentokil Initial India, a pest control company initiated a campaign as a part of CSR activity, COHEP (Community Oriented Health Education Program) and promoted it to the local underdeveloped community in Saidapet, Chennai. Employees of Rentokil Initial India participated in interactive sessions with local children demonstrating on how to wash hands with soap, conducted games and competitions strengthening the importance of hand wash and distributed hygiene kits to encourage the habit.
